According to a report, the eBook industry currently stands at a value of 15.3 billion U.S. dollars. This report throws light on the growing demand for digital content and electronic publishing.

Writers and publishers worldwide are creating, distributing, and marketing their content in digital format through online publishing platforms. ePublishing has become an important choice over traditional publishing because of its benefits.

eBooks provide access to multimedia-rich content which helps to build an interactive approach towards reading. In almost every way, digital publishing has been the best choice for writers and publishers. What is an eBook Publishing Platform?

Platforms like KITABOO offer multiple features to distribute, market and sell eBooks, making it easier to access content for both creators and readers. Revenues can be generated through in-app purchases, subscription fees or any other modes.

Wider Reach and Cost-Effective Publishing

Digital publishing makes the books available online and offline for readers to access from any part of the world. The different formats of eBooks make it easy to open and read on different kinds of devices.

Reaching out to large audiences through traditional publishing often means huge costs and delays in distribution. This can be overcome with ePublishing as there are no time barriers, and the process is quite cost-effective.

Interactive Elements That Go Beyond Reading

eBook publishing platforms allow you to add animations, pop-ups, and links to make the content interactive for readers. An immersive reading experience by flipping pages of a digital eBook or zooming into images and words. Users can also look up words or meanings and click on links to step outside the book into another page of content.

Track User Behaviour and eBook Distribution

Digital publishing platforms, like KITABOO, for instance, are equipped with data analytics features to track sales information and make better decisions. Sales, monthly revenue, and reviews can be tracked and analyzed to reveal patterns that otherwise remain hidden in traditional publishing. This information is useful to determine where and what to publish or distribute.

Understanding Different Digital Publishing Platforms for eBooks

Take a look at some of the popular platforms which can be used for uploading your eBooks.

KITABOO

KITABOO is one of the most popular eBook hosting platforms. It helps you create, publish, and distribute eBooks. Its cloud-based platform allows you to add multimedia features like videos, audio, and external links. You can also leverage its Augmented Reality feature to create more interactive eBooks. Moreover, publishers can create their web store, and users can read books offline.

The platform runs on advanced technology equipped with content analytics after marketing it. KITABOO’s app is available for multiple operating systems, such as Android, Windows, and iOS.

KDP: Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing

Amazon KDP has captured the majority of the ePublishing industry. This platform enables authors to self-publish books and market them via Amazon Kindle Stores. The royalty payout is 70% for books priced between $2.99 to $9.99 and 35% for below $2.99.

It also offers KDP Select with an exclusivity period, which means that you can’t sell your books anywhere else for the first 90 days. Further, first-time authors get more support by uploading eBooks to Kindle. The only drawback is that it limits the earning potential since extra royalties cannot be earned from other platforms.

Apple iBooks Store

If you’re looking for a platform to sell eBooks and reach a wider audience, the Apple iBooks Store acts as a self-publishing platform. It is not the same as uploading eBooks to Kindle, but you have the option to sell your eBooks on other platforms. This can be done by converting the text file into a PDF or ePub.

The Apple iBooks app can be seen pre-installed in every Apple device and provides you the option to create a book with pages. This platform offers a royalty of 70%. However, to get your eBook hosted on the platform, you will need a Mac system.

Barnes and Noble

Formerly known as Nook Press, Barnes and Noble is a well-known publishing platform in the U.S. and U.K. eBooks start at $2.99, and authors can earn a royalty of 70% on sales. The company has a user-friendly dashboard that keeps a record of all eBook sales.

The platform also sells printed books with a 55% royalty offer. B&N offers more than one million titles in the eBook section and has one of the biggest bookstores in the U.S.

Smashwords

Smashwords offers its users a royalty of 80% on every sale. This platform has quite a reputation in the ePublishing industry because of its free ISBN offer. It is connected to some of the biggest eBook stores, like Barnes and Noble and Apple Books.

Its connection to major bookstores worldwide will help you reach a wide audience and achieve higher sales rates. Smashwords also offers daily sales data collected from retailers so you can stay updated on your earnings.

Lulu

With Lulu as your publishing platform, you can convert your Word document into ePUB format for free. It offers a royalty of 75%, while other retailers offer a royalty of 40% to 50%. Lulu does not offer automated formatting services and comes with a quality test.

While uploading your eBook on Lulu, it needs to pass the quality assurance test before it is approved for publishing. With some extra costs, authors can make use of their marketing services like publicity and website design.

Takeaway

Writers and readers can create eBooks and upload them to the platforms mentioned above. Once you’ve uploaded your eBook, activate a marketing strategy and start selling it securely. If you’re looking for ways to create, publish, and market your eBooks, a cloud-based digital platform can provide multiple options.

A platform like KITABOO allows access to multiple publishing tools and end-to-end creation features with a cost-effective plan. Its downloadable eBook reading app supports all kinds of operating systems, making eBook creation and publication a seamless process.
