By Scott Hanson | Blog | 0 comment | 9 January, 2024 | 0

The eLearning industry has witnessed a tremendous transformation over the past few years, especially with the pandemic changing how we interact with one another. However, before the pandemic, the eLearning industry was undergoing a transformation that leveraged various new and evolving technologies to help make education more engaging, inclusive, and collaborative.

With eLearning being the fastest-growing market in the education sector, there’s no doubt that an increasing number of educational institutes and commercial organizations are going to leverage eLearning and digital textbook platforms like KITABOO.

In this guide, we take you through some of the latest trends in eLearning technology and their impact on the overall educational experience, along with their benefits for students, teachers, and institutions as a whole.

The Latest Trends in eLearning Technology in 2024

In this section, we take you through five of the most important and game-changing trends in the eLearning sector.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is probably the most talked about subject in 2024, with the technology spreading its roots across various industries.

The eLearning sector is no exception to this, as AI has changed the way eLearning modules are created and the manner in which they shape students’ experiences.

AI has made education more democratic by providing personalized experiences based on students’ performance and aptitude, along with streamlined feedback mechanisms.

From gathering data about a student’s strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement, AI can also help students reach their goals in a manner that’s best suited to their skills, aptitude, and proficiency.

This data not only helps students in real-time, but it also offers valuable insights that help shape curriculums in the future. It helps give students a voice in the curriculum development process, as it relies heavily on their performance and their ability to adapt to the different learning methodologies.

The Rise of Mobile Learning

Another result of the COVID-19 pandemic, be it at the K-12 level or the organizational level, was that leaders had to find new ways of imparting learning in a manner that’s accessible to all.

With 86.29% of the global population using smartphones, mobile learning was considered to be the ideal way of ensuring that everyone has access to learning materials on the go.

This trend has played a huge role in making education and training a lot more democratic, as it prevents the need for individuals to have a laptop to access learning materials.

Further, with the mobile learning market growing at a CAGR of 15% between 2023 and 2032, it’s clear that mobile learning is set to be a crucial aspect of the eLearning industry for the next decade.

An Increase in Microlearning

Picture a scenario where the average employee works a 40-hour week. According to statistics, these employees spend no more than 1% of their time learning something new that may help shape their professional development.

However, while some might consider this a bad thing, technology has a way of tailoring itself to the needs and behavioral patterns of humans.

This is where microlearning comes in, a concept that relies on offering individuals bite-sized information tailor-made to their needs, roles, and learning objectives. These bite-sized pieces of information help individuals learn key concepts that can help them in their professional journeys without having to take a lot of time to do so.

This is a small piece of the puzzle, as ed-tech platforms such as KITABOO, among others, are taking these dwindling attention spans into consideration and ensuring they offer a variety of engaging learning tools.

In this grand scheme of things, microlearning is all set to be a trend that you can expect a lot more players to adopt, as it helps individuals grasp key pieces of information of knowledge in a quick and easy-to-understand manner.

Video-Based Learning

Another key aspect that has led to the transformation of the eLearning industry in the past few years is the introduction of video-based learning. Gone are the days when traditional rote learning methodologies were seen as the one and only reliable methodology.

Today, institutes and organizations around the world are realizing the importance of video-based learning and how it can help improve an individual’s ability to grasp new concepts on the whole.

This trend is only set to increase in the years to come, and for plenty of good reasons. Video-based learning is a lot more interactive and engaging, for starters. It’s also a lot more visually appealing, which can go a long way in maintaining engagement and concentration levels and can help reduce fatigue caused by a monotonous, visually unappealing means of learning.

All these factors help improve an individual’s ability to concentrate and improve their attention spans while also being able to retain more information for longer.

Additionally, another key benefit of video-based learning material is that individuals have the option of consuming it in bits, based on when they’re in the best mental state to learn. This can help students retain information better and goes well with other trends like microlearning.

Increasing Use of Game-Based Learning

Last but not least, aside from the ride of video-based learning, gamification and game-based learning have also been seeing a significant rise in the eLearning industry. Game-based learning uses a method of incentivizing individuals to learn new concepts, rewarding them at regular intervals to enhance engagement levels.

Be it in the corporate sector or at the K-12 level. Gamification has increasingly been used as a tool to motivate individuals to perform better. Be it in the form of badges upon the completion of a level or any other such incentive, it helps foster the willingness to learn and also helps one develop their skills better.

Additionally, game-based learning is also a great way to help individuals understand concepts by teaching them via real-world scenarios that help go beyond mere theory. This helps individuals build practical knowledge, a skill that will go on to help them in their professional careers.

In Conclusion

As you can see, the eLearning industry has been witnessing a steady transformation over the past few years. With the use of new technology and consistent improvements, the nature of education and learning, both at the K-12 and corporate level, are witnessing a drastic change.

However, this is a change in the right direction, as the industry is leveraging these technologies to help make education and learning more democratic.

In this guide, we’ve taken you through five of the latest trends in the eLearning industry that are here to stay and how ed-tech platforms are leveraging these to transform the learning experience for all the stakeholders involved.

KITABOO is one such platform that has leveraged this technology to offer a digital publishing and ed-tech platform that is making a mark in the education sector.
